The music industry comes with added glitz and glamour as standard and an awards ceremony is guaranteed to bring the biggest names, the sparkliest gowns and the hottest hair styles out to play. The MTV Video & Music Awards in August this year were no different.
With everyone from Lizzo and Nicki Minaj to Eminem and Snoop Dogg in attendance, we got to thinking about our favourite celebrity perfumes: which smell the best and whose scents we would pair with each celebrities’ style. These are our top picks:
Lizzo
Wearing the gown that brought the house down, Lizzo floated down the red carpet in a fabulous Jean-Paul Gaultier designed, blue-black, oversized, billowing dress whose skirt and sleeves reached the floor. Teamed with slicked back hair, an array of gold hooped earrings and blue-black lipstick, this ensemble made a statement, and it was “Look at me.”
An outfit like this demands a rich and bold fragrance that can match the opulence of the gown. Rihanna’s fragrances have a reputation for being bold, delicate and feminine and her collection has many to choose from.
Taylor Swift
Swift’s shimmering, barely-there dress was designed by Oscar de la Renta and was dripping with diamonds. Light, tight and dazzlingly bright, the layered strings of jewels and beads came alive as she walked before the cameras. Teamed with strappy, jewelled sandals, centre parted bangs and her trademark bright red lips, this was a stunning fusion of 1920s and 2020s fashion.
A light and breezy fragrance, like those from the J.Lo perfume collection, will have you sparkling all over.
Lil Nas X
Never afraid to go bold, Lil Nas X turned heads in a feathered skirt with a thick black band and head dress with a peacock-inspired feel. Designed by Harris Reed, this outfit needed no accessories and Lil Nas X went shirtless, with just a small, tidy, barely-through moustache and beard. With black leggings and his hair loose, he and his outfit seemed like one entire, showstopping piece.
Nicky Minaj
Winner of the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard award, Nicki Minaj wore a Dolce & Gabbana gown to collect her award. The asymmetrical, fuchsia pink gown had a sparkling underlay and a thigh-high split. Teamed with pink locks, glittered, sparkling heels and high-shine silver jewellery, Ms. Minaj also had matching nails, lips and eye makeup.
In a barbie-chic outfit, a sweet and sparkling fragrance, like those from pop-star and rival Arianna Grande, is a must.
Sabrina Carpenter
Singer Sabrina Carter wore a floor-length creation from Moschino. Beautifully embellished with colourful flowers on a black background, it had cut out panels and was paired with a thick, black, Jennifer Behr headband, long, blonde hair and thick parted bangs, giving us a trip to the 60s with a 2020s twist.
Something subtle and sophisticated would complete this 60s dream, and those from Kim Kardashian more than fit the bill.
Matching your scent and make up to you outfit can ensure your aesthetic is carried through your whole self, and a scent can have a lot to say, so finding the right one for each look and occasion can ensure that your name is the one on everyone’s lips.
